2024 Cardinal Remembrance Ornament
I only have a few memories of my maternal grandmother, Dema, who passed away when I was 6. I remember her giving me a bath in her house on Indiana Avenue in Racine, making my hair into a unicorn horn with shampoo, and the smell of it. I remember dancing to "Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head" with her on the deck of their "Up North" house in Door County.
Mostly, I remember my mom telling me that every time we saw a cardinal, that was Gramma Dema visiting us. ❤️ It wasn’t until many years later that I learned in many cultures, the cardinal is believed to be a sign that a loved one who has passed is near. Now, every time I see one, I say, “Hey Gramma Dema!” 🐦
This special cardinal ornament was inspired by her, and it's also a little tribute to my paternal grandmother Marge, who taught me how to do needlework. Each ornament is completely hand-designed and stitched by me, with Mr. Cardinal perching on a "good stick" that I found...somewhere..... and finally found a good use for. No two will be exactly alike. ✨
5 inches in diameter, can be hung as an ornament or as a small, sweet wall hanging. Comes in a holiday-themed tulle bag...you don't even have to wrap it!
Due to the custom nature of my work, no refunds are offered. If you have requests, I'm happy to accommodate!
